A philosophy is a comprehensive system of ideas about human nature and the nature of the reality we live in. It is a guide for living, because the issues it addresses are basic and pervasive, determining the course we take in life and how we treat other people.

The topics that philosophy addresses fall into several distinct fields. Among those of fundamental concern are:

* Metaphysics (the theory of reality).
* Epistemology (the theory of knowledge)
* Ethics (the theory of moral values)
* Politics (the theory of legal rights and government)
* Aesthetics (the theory of the nature of art)

i agree with this topic,

-students will be able to think, write, and speak intelligently about the texts and issues they study

-it can provides the students a perfect preparation for the entrance exams required for law, business, computer science, or engineering course in the university..

-students can learn how to question what passes as common knowledge & accepted wisdom, to evaluate their own & others' positions, and to formulate new ideas.

Assalamualaikum..

I'm sory for not joining you guys last night..

I forgot bout the discussion and was lending my ears at the Sex Talk..

4 those of you who have no idea whatsoever on what philosophy is..well..I'm exctly the same..

But I do know some basics about it though..
Philosophy is no diminished in specified subjects or knowledge..
There are lots of branches in philosophy..
Philosophy in science, politics, religlion, maths, and so much more..

Philosophy, which should be noted cannot be studied as a degree, is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning subjects such as existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language..

Philosophy comes from the Greek [philosophia], which literally translates to "love of wisdom..

In my view, students of secondary school should greatly be encouraged to study philosophy..

1st reason:
-Enhances students' thinking capabilities
-Philosophy requires its learners to really stretch out their thinking nerves to the MAX..
-In the long run, this will improve stedents' problem solving capabilities thus, making it easiear for them to learn the subjects that require some serious brain power like math, physics and chemistry..

2nd reason:
-Philosophy gets students to be exposed to a lot of things(CRITICALY)
-many of today's students only rely on materials at school as an opinion source..
-they cannot give an opinion about a certain topic on their own
-through philosophy, they are trained to think in the systematic way

3rd reason:
-Philosophy widens a person's knowledge range..
-by studying philosophy, students can have an insight to most of the subjects that they will or wlii not learn..
