A WEEK BEFORE ANOTHER EXAM!!

I was watching a movie last night. I told Group 5 this morning about the movie. I won't tell you about it here. Aren't we all tired of examination after examination sometimes? Don't we feel like we are sitting on a conveyor belt waiting to be processed to a product that is sale-able? We seek knowledge or we wait for knowledge to come to us? Why aren't we creating knowledge? Well, you have just finished one examination and for sure you are anxious to know the results because in the end because the numbers matter. What you have learned don't matter much. The numbers are more important. This week is the week when we do practices that we have done our whole life. Grammar, the same grammar items we learned 11 years ago. The same rules.

Talking about rules: Footballers play the game, following the same rules everywhere. There is a universal rule for the game. However, the way they play the game is different, right? The issue here is, do we play the game differently? Have we been learning grammar the same way that our grammar abilities have never improved? I am asking the question because I am concerned about us. What's with 'we' and 'us' you might ask...I am referring to all of us. Including myself. We should not stop learning, and if that same strategy we have been using doesn't seem to help to bring any improvement, maybe it is time to change the way we play the game.

Children of IIUM, especially my writing students, to be good at writing to read more. We can only be better at it if we read more English books, magazines of read online newspapers if buying hard-copy is too much for you. Reading is definitely the right way to have better writing skill.

What do you need to do now???

Think of the possible topic that could be asked in EPT for essay. Share the topic with your friends here in the blog. I hope you will do your best. Take care. Set an appointment if you need my assistance.

Let's take of each other.

it's okay for me if the essay is about technology again as we have done lots of essays related to it. i hope it's not about philosophy or psychology....those topics make me feel giddy and dizzy...banging my head.hopefully the topic is about our education system...such as should students be given a chance to choose the subjects they want to study ? or should secondary students graduate from school when they are 16 so, they can enter to university earlier.

Read carefully! The assignment is here!

Fiza, true. It would be great if the question is about the education system. Let's say students should be given a chance to choose the subjects they want to study, what would be the points if you agree with the opinion?

-older citizens should be sent to the old folk home.
-the period of compulsory retirement should be shortened.
-co-curricular activities build students personality.
-rapid development contributes to the economic growth of a country.

these are some points that i will consider if i agree with the opinion

-students will be more interested in their learning

-students will pass the exam with flying colours

-students can achieve their ambitions and goals

-to prevent students from studying the subjects blindly....how sad (T_T)

fiza, do you think "students will pass the exam with flying colours" can really made a good point?

Please spread the news that the End-of-semester Examination Result is ready to be viewed at English Language Department from now on.

answer for madam's question..
i am disagreed with it..because of due to several circumstances:
1. gives difficulty to administration of school or university.
2. causes time management problems to both teacher and student.
3. excludes students from taking harder and very skillful subjects.

madam,is the result posted at the ELD board??

Yes... go check now.

okay...that point maybe is too direct or general.what i mean with the term 'exam' is not only in writing examination such as in SPM exam...but with the physical and mental challenges too.if their teachers, friends, lectures or people around them asking about the subject, they wont have any problem to answer and explain it.or maybe they can apply the theory that they learn in book in their real life.there is no proud to be science-stream student if you just memorize the textbooks and no passion to learn those subjects.

"Extra-curricular activities mold students' personalities." Syahira... let's discuss this topic.

-self-confidence
-leadership

another point is in the progress.. ;)i'm still thinking about it.

I want to share a topic, specifically in social theme. Let's discuss about this topic, do curfews keep teens out of trouble.
Personally, curfews do not help to make the teenagers out of trouble because it
~makes the teenagers think negatively towards their parents actions
~causes everything becomes worst
~not the best solution in handling the teenagers

i think this topic quite interesting to be discuss here...'should there still be colleges and schools just for men or boy and some just for women or girl'

it can be elaborated due to:
- social relationship between boys and girls
- pros and contras about the thinking of different genders
- easy to face the problem together
