This Week's Class and Assignment 5

Dear Group 14,

I am sorry that I am not able to teach you writing this week. Something inevitable happen and I have to stay at home at least till Thursday. Anyways, I have read your comments and I have to say that I am eminently impressed because most of you could argue your points. Junaidy, it is great that you can really refute arguments of your friends'. I have a request to make before your mid-semester examination. Please do your own revisions on the grammar items that I have given to you earlier. Follow the list and use your grammar books and if you don't have one, borrow or buy. Remember that 10 sentences with an error each will be given to you together with reading questions.

For this week, I have to ask you to write another essay and I have to think of a topic. Alright, here it is;

Having credentials is better than having wealth. Do you agree?
Write the essay in no more than 450 words.
The essay is due next Monday, 6th July, 2009

Try to give real life examples to support your points. I believe you are already able to write essays with catchy introduction together with a parallel specific thesis statement. Topic sentences that are supported by details and examples. A refutation paragraph that can present the concession and your refutation and of course a very well-phrased conclusion. Well, enjoy your week without writing class while it lasts. You have a week to complete writing the essay. Feel free to do some Internet research regarding the topic. However, I always know when students plagiarize from somewhere. Till we meet again in class next week, insyallah.

What is the subject and the verb of a sentence?

Yesterday you have written your first essay and you really worked hard on it. For next week, here is your assignment. So sorry for the delay.

Assignment 3

This assignment focuses on your grammar knowledge. You will start looking at sentences by identifying the subject and the object of the sentences. These are sentences that I take from your essays.

Example 1:

Identify the subject and the verb of the sentence.

By reading blogs of other bloggers one can add his or her knowledge and vocabulary as well as improving reading skills.

Use different colours of highlighter to differentiate the subject from the verbs.

Find 10 sentences with variety of structures to be discussed in class. Type or write them neatly and make copies for every group for the class.

Second Assignment for Group 14

Most of the time in the past, my students were not careful with the language and spelling. However, your group this semester has given me a good first impression. Good job! Most of you tried your best to submit your thesis statements on time.

Our second assignment will be an easy one. For next week, we are going to discuss a topic in class.
The topic is: Blogging harms society. Do you agree?


I am not yet asking you to give a thesis statement for the topic mentioned. What you need to do is to find as much information on the topic and share some of the information with your friends in the comment box. You might want to argue with your friends' ideas or points as you are reading the points posted.

I am expecting an active discussion in this blog for this topic and we shall continue discussing in class next week. You have all Friday, Saturday and Sunday to argue.

I am going to miss all of you till we meet again.

Ola My Writing Class Students!!!!

Assalamulaikum... students of Group 14, used to be Bogus class and now floating. I believe floating from one class to the other is tiring, don't you think so?

Alright, let's get to business. The first assignment for this semester is to post your first THESIS STATEMENT in the comment box. If you are not familiar with blogspot, get yourself a friend who can help you. Below is an example;
